 Igor Sazevich: Glancing Back—Stepping Forward

Gallery Route One presents a solo exhibition of the work of Inverness-based painter Igor Sazevich in its Center Gallery from February 14 through Mar. 23, 2014. On view are more than 15 original oils on canvas and watercolors that represent works both past and present.

Included are several large, earlier figurative pieces. On these canvases, shadowy figures emerge and vanish into evocative landscapes conjured from the past. Ethereal people and places seem to inhabit a world of memory and forgotten histories such as the faceless bathing beauties in Lightness of Being and the baseball game in progress in Some May Come? Recent work includes several abstracts of haunting beauty, what Sazevich calls “landscapes of the mind.”

Sazevich’s richly textured paintings are the product of an intense process of deconstructing older works by scraping and removing layers of paint and then adding new layers of color and imagery. The result is complex and lush. Sazevich, a Bay Area artist for more than 40 years, has recently exhibited at the Bolinas Museum, the Sonoma Museum of Visual Art, Gallery Route One, Toby’s Gallery,

The Wild Book Show & Nature Journals

Benefit for GRO’s Artists in the Schools Program

In the Project Space: The Wild Book Show plus Nature Journals by John Muir Laws and members of the Bay Area Nature Journaling Club.

The Wild Book Show is an exhibition and silent auction of books hand made by artists to benefit GRO's Artists in the Schools Program. The theme of the show is a celebration of the "Wilds" of the Point Reyes Peninsula. In past shows Wild books have included feathers, rocks, sand, oyster shells, leaves, twigs, moss and other wild-gathered materials. The bindings can be wild, too, stretching the definition of a book far beyond the usual pages-between-covers. The Wild Book Show is co-sponsored by Gallery Route One and Point Reyes Books.

John Muir Laws' love and respect for nature includes a commitment to stewardship and a passion to share the delight of exploring nature with others.

John Muir (Jack) Laws teaches nature exploration and field sketching classes throughout California and beyond. To learn more about John Muir Laws, Nature Journaling and the Bay Area Nature Journaling Club at

Tim Graveson  & Zea Morvitz - Found

Tim Graveson, and Zea Morvitz, who work in mixed media, are exhibiting work based on discarded books which the couple "found" as they were being sent to landfill. Graveson photographs altered books in various settings; Morvitz uses acrylic, graphite, watercolor and ink to make wall-mounted altered books. The two artists who are married and live in Inverness, have been working on this project for over 10 years.
