The Broken Mishkan: Performance & Community Conversation – Online via ZOOM

February 12 @ 4:00 pm 5:00 pm PST

Mishkan is Hebrew for “sacred space.” The Broken Mishkan is a 23-minute theatrical work that follows one woman’s compelling journey toward wholeness after being diagnosed with a chronic illness. From swimming New Hampshire lakes to praying with nuns in a California forest, in a story spiced with humor and Jewish mysticism, Sara celebrates the poignant connections between art, healing, wilderness, and blessing.

“A profoundly moving testament to the power of the imagination, one in which Sara offers that rarest of gifts—an intensely personal story that becomes our own.” – Helen Stoltzfus, Black Swan Arts & Media

Sara Nesson is a Marin County artist, writer, and performer who learned to draw after losing her good health. A lifelong creative, she has led candlelight services in churches, performed with A Traveling Jewish Theatre, mentored Jewish teenagers, and traversed the United States as a travel writer. In partnership with the Dance Palace and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Sara is leading an initiative to build visibility and equity for local artists living with chronic illness or disability.

This event, supported by a grant from Alliance for Jewish Theater, will be part performance/part community conversation. Bonnie Guttman, Dance Palace Executive Director, will introduce the program.
