Hello West Marin Residents,
I'm lucky in so many ways to have Bruce Fox as my neighbor. He's multi-talented, generous, and a great teacher. He's the author of "Making Mobiles" (https://populuxebooks.com/products/making-mobiles-by-bruce-cana-fox-2006), and he's going to offer a one-day workshop on making a simple Calder-esque mobile at our place on Sunday, March 29, from 10am - sharp to 4pm-ish. By the end of the day, you'll likely have completed a simple, unpainted mobile. Bruce is donating his teaching, and I'm donating our space. Each participant will use a tool kit we will provide. If you'd like to have your own, we'll be sending along a shopping list after the workshop.
We’ve been holding these workshops almost bi-monthly for over four years and have a “Calder Club” with over a dozen members. Once you’ve got a sense of the basics, there is always more to learn. We want to create a community of Calder Mobile Makers. Here’s a link to a wonderful documentary on his life and work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VewUU7mYzTk&t=8s. Maybe you’d like to join us?
Please let me know if you are interested in attending, either by email at jggouldthorpe@gmail.com or by text at 415 699-7167. I'll reply with location details on the Mesa in Point Reyes Station. Class will be limited to 8 participants. Weather permitting, we will be working outside in a covered area; otherwise, indoors with a large HEPA filter running.
Best to All,
John Gouldthorpe
