"Theater and Identity: the Art of Manuel Lopez Oliva"

Saturday, February 7th, 2:00pm    (free admission, seated event)

CONTINUUM Fine Art, 11101 Highway One, Suite 109 (the Russell Chatham space), Point Reyes Station

In the fall of 2025, fine art photographer Charles Anselmo photographically captured the paintings of Manuel Lopez Oliva in Cuba to ultimately produce a series of full size, fine art limited edition prints in his Inverness studio. The resultant exhibition, Hall of Mirrors, continues through March 7th. While referencing the work on display, Anselmo will discuss the meanings, atmospheres and symbols depicted throughout this remarkable collection.

Lopez Oliva was born in Manzanillo, Cuba in 1947. His work conveys a feeling of unmitigated longing for an undefined utopia, a yearning made strong through an exuberant sense of illusion, as well as the hope that it evokes. Finished with unmistakably Caribbean motifs in a visual pantheon of stages, embroidered curtains and costumes, the paintings unequivocally identify Lopez Oliva as one of the most highly regarded artists of Cuba today.
